John B. Russo

John B. Russo, 89, of Hudson, NY passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 17, 2024 . John was born in Hudson on March 28, 1935 to Francesco and Nicolina (Cariseo) Russo. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1953. John joined the US Army from 1960 to 1964 then served in the New York Army National Guard. After 35 years working at IBM Kingston, he retired in 1991. He was a Life Member of Hudson Elks Lodge 787 where he served as a Trustee and member of the House Committee. John was also a life member of Washington Hose Company #3 of the City of Hudson Fire Department. He was co owner and operator with his son in law Frank O’Neil for 27 years for Quality Trophies. He was a parishioner of the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church and Church of Saint Joseph. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 64 years Margaret E. (Scalera) Russo his daughters and their husbands Donna (Frank) O’Neil of Conway, SC and Michele (Tim) Hutchings of Hudson, NY. The absolute joy of Poppy John’s life were his grandchildren Tiffany and Franklin O’Neil of Conway, SC, Ian (Brianna Jostlin) Hutchings and Lina Hutchings of Hudson, NY, as well as his bonus son Nicolas Pierro of Hudson. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Mary Abitabile, Christina Sandagato, Carolyn Russo, and his nephew Michael Sandagato. John was known as Uncle JB to several nieces, nephews, great nieces, cousins and Godchildren. The family would like to express their extreme gratitude to Maryellen and to the staff of the Firemen's Home for the awesome care that Poppy received. Visiting hours will be Friday December 20, 2024 from 3-6PM at the Sacco Funeral Home 700 Town Hall Drive Hudson. Hudson Elks prayer service will begin at 5:00PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated 11:30AM Saturday Dec. 21, from Holy Trinity Parish/St. Mary Church in Hudson.
