Robert Lee Briggs Sr.

On Thursday, April 13, 2017, Robert Briggs Sr., 77, of Columbiaville, a graduate of Ichabod Crane, passed away surrounded by his family and friends. Bob is survived by his loving wife Carol (VanBenschoten) Briggs, their three sons Robert Jr. (Joanne), Alan, and Glenn; two granddaughters Emily A. and Trisha E. (mother, Elizabeth (Doss) Briggs) , and one sister Joan Himmel. He was predeceased by brothers Pete, Sam, Tom, and Wayne. Bob was a Butcher at First National, and the Claverack Food Mart. He served in the Navy as a Machinist, and was a custodian at Hudson City School District. He was a Junior warden at St. John's Episcopal church in Stockport. He was a life member of both the Stockport Volunteer Fire Company and the Glencadia Rod and Gun Club in Stuyvestant. He was a member of the Stockport Town Board. For anybody that knew Bob, his infectious smile and kind, loving heart made the world a better place, and each of us better for having known him. To Bob, you didn't have to be blood to be considered family, and his family was the most important thing in the world. He will be greatly missed by many. In lieu of flowers and donations, contributions can be made to the town of Stockport Recreation Commission; 2787 Atlantic Ave., Hudson, NY, 12534, in honor of Bob Briggs Sr. Calling hours will will be Tuesday April 18, 2017 from 11:am-1:00pm at the Sacco-McDonald-Valenti Funeral Home 700 Town Hall Drive Hudson, NY 12534. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Dan Cohn of St. Johns Lutheran Church officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Stuyvesant Falls Cemetery.
