Carole Vorgang Niesen

Carole Vorgang Niesen peacefully left this earth for her heavenly home on Friday, July 17, 2026, just two days after celebrating her 88th birthday. Born on July 15, 1938, in Yonkers, New York, she was the beloved daughter of William and Beatrice Vorgang. Carole was preceded in death by the love of her life and devoted husband, Roderick John Niesen; her brother, Paul Vorgang; and her parents. A graduate of Roe Jan High School in Taconic, New York, Carole went on to attend Columbia Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned her Registered Nurse degree. It was during nursing school that she met the man who would become her lifelong partner, Roderick. Together they built a life rooted in love, family, faith, and service. Carole began her nursing career at Columbia Memorial Hospital before becoming a visiting nurse, where she compassionately cared for patients in the comfort of their own homes. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and dedication to helping others made a lasting impact on countless families throughout Columbia County. On January 16, 1960, Carole and Rod were married, beginning a remarkable marriage built on unwavering love and partnership. Together they raised their four sons—Tim, Roddy, Billy, and Greg—in their family home on Fabiano Boulevard, where the door was always open, laughter was abundant, and everyone was made to feel welcome. Carole and Rod were true pillars of the Columbia County community. Their lives were defined by generosity, volunteerism, and a genuine desire to help others. Carole was an active member of the Hudson Middle School, Hudson High School, and Greenport School PTAs. In 1975, she was among the dedicated volunteers who operated the snack bar at the Hudson Train Station, an effort that helped support the Hudson Day Care Center. Over the years, she received numerous awards recognizing her extraordinary commitment to community service, though those who knew her understood that helping others was simply part of who she was. Family was the center of Carole's life. She and Rod shared a love of travel, enjoying adventures both near and far. For 38 years, they faithfully traveled to Potsdam to cheer at basketball games, with many stops along the way at St. Rose, CBA, and Hudson High School. She treasured family vacations to Cape Cod and Auger Lake, countless summer days spent around the backyard pool, and hosting the beloved annual family picnic that brought generations together. Carole also had a special gift for making others feel remembered. Many friends and family members were fortunate to receive one of her beautifully hand-drawn birthday, anniversary, or get-well cards—small works of art that reflected the thoughtfulness and love she shared so freely. She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory: her sons, Tim (Mary Beth) Niesen, Roddy (Terra) Niesen, Bill (Michelle) Niesen, and Gregory Niesen; her grandchildren, Michael (Katie) Niesen, Megan (Adam) Niesen, Nicole (Anthony) Niesen, Jake Niesen, Ashley Cohn, Dakota Cohn, and Tucker Banios; her great-grandson, James Michael Olendorf; her brother, Jim (Lois) Vorgang; along with several beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. While her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her family finds comfort in knowing that Carole is reunited once again with her beloved Rod, her brother Paul, and those who welcomed her into eternal peace. Her legacy of compassion, generosity, quiet strength, and unconditional love will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched and in the family she so dearly loved. In honoring Carole's wishes, there will be no services at this time. The family plans to hold a Celebration of Life at a later date, where they will gather to honor and remember a woman whose life was truly a blessing to all who knew her.
